Activities of Cape Town Big Band Academy

We are planning to extent our business based on three pillars of music, which includes: Education business, Music research business, and Music support business. We currently will place more emphasis on the Educational Business Element of Music.

Aims and Goals

Most of the children we target grew up in the broader disadvantage areas of western cape, commonly known as the Cape Flats Areas and are exposed to drugs, gangsterism etc., and subsequently found themselves in correctional rehabilitations centre(s).

Our aim is to address these issue(s) of drugs and gangsterism in using music as a platform to occupy these children and keep them from the street and providing the with the opportunity to either start to learn and play an instrument and/or learn to read music. This ultimately will allow the the opportunity to take their talent to the next level and participating in professional bands. The programme also seeks to achieve to create grades to enable musicians to apply to Tertiary institutions for further studies and ultimately securing job opportunities within the music industry. This programme also aim to address discipline, self-confidence and respect in becoming individuals that bring positive change to the communities at large.

Lessons for children’s rich creativity

CTBBA Music School

Cape Town Big Band Academy Music School started in 2022 in Delft, at Roosendal Secondary School with 80 students, and 10 teachers. This is our first year that we have been officially operational, but have extensive years’ experience in the music industry and have assisted and help many musicians achieve their goals. Comprehensive music education such as listening to, singing,
playing, reading, and creating music. In accordance with children’s physical and mental development, timely education, their most appropriate education for that time, is used. Lessons in groups enable the students to deepen their overall understanding of music through ensembles, and they develop social and emotional skills. These are the three foundations we use to develop children’s musical skills

Junior Original Concert (JOC)
These are concerts of children aged 15 and under studying at CTBBA Music. Each year we will develop a theme and enabling them to put their feelings into songs and perform them. We will have these concerts every year in order to draw out the infinite potential found in children and to encourage their growth.

45 Min Practical Sessions

Training of teachers With comprehensive musical and instruction Skills

Training of Musical Instructors
Our focus is to enter into partnerships with existing music schools and Universities in the music fraternity to ensure that transfer of skills to teachers and continues development of teaching staff can achieved. These substantial study workshops provide potential and certificated instructors with a full understandingof CTBBA philosophy and methods and enables them to master the techniques necessary for teaching. Other workshops are also available for instructors wishing to learn how to introduce creative ideas and develop their applicative skills in teaching.
Teaching Materials Development and Teaching Methods Research
Based on accumulated teaching know how, research and development, and teaching workshops by instructors, the most appropriate teaching materials and methods for lessons must be developed and used. We are meaning to create partnerships with Universities and other music institutions to ensure that most recent and latest music strategies are used and implemented.
Grade Examination System
Grade Examination System and Curriculum we introduced is based on UNISA syllabus. This is a challenging Curriculum and theoretically can be compared to all theoretic outlines of music theory. Internal assessments for instruments and recommendations will be made before student is to do their grading externally. Thus far, we have not associate ourselves with an external service provider to do the necessary grading for instruments we teach. In future we would like to established own grading system with the goal of letting all music learners test their own skill level while developing balanced musical skills
